About Verne W Critz Elementary School
Verne W. Critz Elementary serves kindergarten through third grade in East Patchogue, and our third graders move on to a new building in the South Country Central School District when they finish here. Families can choose the district's Side-by-Side Dual Language Program, where English-speaking and Spanish-speaking students learn together and instruction alternates between the two languages by unit.
English as a New Language services support multilingual learners through integrated and stand-alone instruction. Our curriculum uses Readers and Writers Workshop, Math in Focus and Amplify Science, with integrated social studies and social and emotional learning, and NWEA MAP assessments track progress.
Restorative practices give students tools to resolve conflicts peacefully. Lunchtime book clubs bring readers together, art, music and physical education round out the week, and our guidance and mental health staff and an active PTA support families.
