Founded in 1988, Alternatives for Children Dix Hills is a leading non-profit special education school and early childhood agency in Suffolk County, NY. Alternatives for Children provides specialized educational programs, early intervention services, and comprehensive clinical therapies for infants, toddlers, and preschool children ages 0 to 5 with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, and sensory challenges. The Dix Hills campus features low classroom ratios (including 6:1:2, 8:1:2, and integrated inclusion preschool classes) staffed by certified special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nurses. Facilities include modern adaptive playgrounds, indoor sensory motor gyms, and specialized technology centers. Educational and therapeutic services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to eligible Long Island families through County Early Intervention and CPSE funding.
