About Henry Viscardi School
Founded in 1962, Henry Viscardi School at The Viscardi Center is an accessible educational choice for families and a resource for school districts that cannot accommodate the academic, health, and assistive technology needs of children with severe orthopedic disabilities. Many of our students require life-sustaining medical treatment and extensive support throughout the day, and might otherwise receive instruction at home or in a hospital setting.
A New York State 4201 special education school located on Long Island, we serve children referred from districts across the New York metropolitan area, including Long Island, Westchester, and all five boroughs. While our students' primary disability is physical, many have multiple disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Spina Bifida, Traumatic Brain Injury, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
We blend challenging academics at a variety of levels with social emotional learning, vocational training, transition planning, and cultural enrichment. Our staff of educators, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, school nurses, psychologists, and social workers supports students from Pre-K to age 21, with a fully equipped medical suite, on-site therapists, customized assistive technology, adapted physical education, and accessible facilities including a swimming pool, gym, and independent living house.
