About Santa Fe Preparatory School
Santa Fe Preparatory School is an independent school on Camino De Cruz Blanca serving grades 7 through 12. It enrolls 343 students against roughly 36 full time teachers, which works out near a 9 to 1 ratio. It is a mainstream college preparatory school with a defined learning support function rather than a school for learning differences.
Support runs through a Learning Services department staffed by learning specialists. It works in both directions: some students are admitted already carrying a diagnosed learning difference and begin receiving services on arrival, while others are identified once they are at the school and pick up support at that point. Where a diagnosis is not yet in place, Learning Services staff work with the student, the family and the student's support team to judge whether a diagnostic evaluation is warranted.
Every student is assigned an advisor who acts as their advocate across school life and is the family's first point of contact. In the upper school, deans work alongside the school counselor and the learning specialists to build student support plans, so a struggling student is discussed by several adults who know them rather than handled by one. Academic and executive functioning skill practice is built in for all students, not reserved for those with a diagnosis, and Learning Services also partners with outside tutors who know the school's curriculum for students who need more.
The stated aim throughout is student agency and self-advocacy. Admission is selective, so families should discuss a specific profile with the school.

May Center For Learning
May Center for Learning runs May School in Santa Fe for students from Pre-K through 8th grade with learning differences, most commonly dyslexia, ADHD and language processing disorder. The curriculum is individualized and strengths-based, built around what a student can do rather than around a grade-level average. The operating number that matters is the ratio: 6 students to 1 teacher. Teachers aim to teach the students actually in the room rather than a hypothetical class with one set of expectations, and parents and students tend to describe the result as being truly seen. Four attributes organize the program, gathered under the acronym LEAP: Literacy, Empowerment, Advocacy and Principles. Advocacy is the one worth noting, because it means students are taught to explain their own needs rather than having that done for them indefinitely. May Center's reach extends past its own enrollment through the May Teacher Institute, which was founded by educators with decades of classroom experience and works with schools, districts and the New Mexico Public Education Department on outcomes for students with learning differences. It also runs a Dyslexia Specialist National Certification Program, so the organization trains specialists as well as teaching children. A Summer LEAP program runs alongside the school year. Financial aid is available.
New Mexico School for the Deaf
The New Mexico School for the Deaf serves Deaf and hard of hearing children from its main campus at 1060 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe school covers kindergarten through 12th grade and includes a weekday residential program for students whose families live too far away for a daily commute. Residential students live in cottages on campus, with after school and summer camp options alongside nutrition and transportation services. Athletics run from elementary through 12th grade and the teams compete nationally: in 2026 the cheerleading team and the boys basketball team were both recognized as NDIAA Division 2 national champions. The school's work reaches well past its own enrollment. NMSD provides home and community based services statewide for families with Deaf or hard of hearing children from birth through age six. It also supports other schools and programs around New Mexico on the language, communication and learning needs of their Deaf and hard of hearing students. ASL classes are offered in spring and fall. As a state school there is no tuition.
ABC Preschool & Childcare
ABC Preschool and Childcare runs an early childhood program in Rio Rancho, one of three centers under the same operator. All three hold the 5-star FOCUS rating awarded by the State of New Mexico and the University of New Mexico, and programs are built to align with New Mexico ECECD guidelines. The practical draw for working parents is the wraparound care. Alongside preschool, the center provides before and after school care for primary school children aged 5 to 12 during the school year, with transportation offered. Children get homework time, activities and time with peers rather than a second school day. No special education staffing, therapy services or documented accommodations process is published. This is mainstream childcare, and a family whose child needs specific support should ask what the center can handle before enrolling.
