Challenger School - Summerlin

Helen J. Stewart School is a Clark County School District special school in Las Vegas for students ages six through twenty-two with significant intellectual disabilities and additional support needs. Students attend from across Clark County. Instruction connects functional academics with communication, daily living, behavior, and preparation for adult life. Each student has an Individualized Education Program that guides the services and goals in their school day. The school has twenty-two classrooms. Its staff includes speech therapists, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, and specialists in music, art, transition services, and adaptive physical education. Students can use spaces such as a sensory room, a daily living skills room, and a greenhouse as part of instruction. These are places to practice skills that matter outside a textbook, from communication and self-care to participation in everyday activities. For secondary students, transition planning is part of the IEP. Community-based instruction gives students opportunities to practice pre-vocational and daily living skills beyond campus. The transition page also connects families with the school social worker, transition specialist, and state and local adult-service resources. Families can attend monthly Family Support Meetings, stay in touch with teachers, and take part in IEP meetings. At John F. Miller School in Las Vegas, we provide specialized education for students with disabilities, with a focus on independence and dignity.
