Elko Charter School

Elko Institute for Academic Achievement opened as Northeastern Nevada's first free public charter school for kindergarten through eighth grade. We keep the school small on purpose: two classes per grade, with 22 students in each class, and seats are filled through an annual enrollment lottery with a waiting list. Our elementary grades have their own classroom teachers plus a dedicated science teacher, and our middle school students move between subject specialists in science, math and English language arts. Specials teachers, a school nurse and a response to intervention (RTI) staff member round out the program. Students with IEPs are served by two special education instructors and two paraprofessionals on our staff. Our core values are Respect, Honesty, Kindness and Excellence, and students learn the Coyote pledge, "I am in charge of me," from their first year. Our campus sits on West Main Street in Elko.

Nevada Classical Academy Elko is a tuition-free public charter school on Railroad Street serving kindergarten through 4th grade for the 2026-27 school year. Our founding board spent several years building community support and working through the state charter process to bring a classical school to Elko County. We are a Hillsdale College Curriculum School, teaching from the Hillsdale K-12 Program Guide. Our content-rich program covers English language arts, math, science, history and art, with strong emphasis on grammar, vocabulary, literature, and speaking and listening. Teachers use Socratic questioning, and subjects spiral back each year at a deeper level, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric stages of the Trivium. Enrollment is open to all students, with a weighted lottery when applications exceed available seats and a waitlist after that. We provide all school supplies for a $30 donation per student, students wear uniforms, and we run an afterschool program. English learner services are available, with family notices in English, Spanish, Chinese, Amharic, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
