About Tower School - ESU 1
Tower School is a regional Level 3 contracted alternative education facility operated by Educational Service Unit 1 (ESU 1) on East 14th Street in Wayne, Nebraska. Founded during the 1992-1993 academic year, the school provides highly specialized educational programming for kindergarten through 12th grade students (up to age 21) whose severe behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges require an alternative environment beyond the resources of their local public school districts.
The program operates two distinct specialized classrooms staffed by certified special education teachers and trained behavioral support professionals. Instruction emphasizes behavior modification, positive social interactions, functional literacy and numeracy, independent living routines, and vocational preparation. Tower School staff also provide educational outreach and transition planning to assist member school districts throughout northeast Nebraska, helping students develop the functional and academic competencies necessary for long-term independence and potential district reintegration.
