Dodge County Head Start

Fremont, NE Ages 2-5
Children with diagnosed disabilities School readiness Family engagement

Dodge County Head Start is a federally funded, locally supported early childhood program for qualifying families in Fremont and across Dodge County. We serve children from birth to age 5 through two programs: Early Head Start home visits for pregnant mothers, infants and toddlers, and our School Readiness preschool classrooms for children ages 3 to 5. In the preschool rooms, qualified teachers, assistants and family service workers plan activities around Nebraska's early learning standards in math, science, literacy, language, social and emotional growth and physical health. Each child receives a health screening covering growth and development, vision, hearing, speech and oral health, and we help families keep up with checkups. Children eat two meals and a snack each day from menus approved by a registered dietitian. A mental health professional is available to children, parents and staff. At least 10 percent of our enrollment is reserved for children with diagnosed disabilities, and we work with public schools and other providers so those services reach the classroom. Parents help run the program through Policy Council, Parent Cafes and PIWI groups. Applications are taken year round, and limited transportation is available.
