About Erickson Elementary School
Erickson Elementary is a Leader in Me school in Ypsilanti Community Schools, serving students in 1st through 5th grade on Levona Street. Children practice the Leader in Me habits in class, and each month we gather in the gymnasium for a student leadership assembly that recognizes achievement and leadership.
Our staff includes 35 full-time-equivalent teachers and 15 support staff, and the average class size is about 24. Children take art, music, physical education and science as co-curricular classes. Students who need extra help work with intervention teachers and tutors, and we offer English language learner support, speech therapy, occupational therapy, programs for students with disabilities, school social workers and a school nurse. Therapaws reading therapy dogs listen to young readers, and University of Michigan programs add academic and social skills support.
The Sunrise Club offers academic enrichment and social-emotional learning before school, from 7:00 to 9:15 a.m., and the EMU Bright Futures afterschool program runs in our building. Students can join Girls on the Run, Lego Robotics and Science Olympiad, and families come together for math and literacy nights, our grandparent volunteer program and the open house picnic.
