Eastpointe Early Learning Center is the preschool building for Eastpointe Community Schools, designed for our youngest learners and built around small classes. Families choose from our preschool programs to get their child ready for kindergarten. Our largest program is the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), the preschool program for 4-year-olds funded by Michigan and offered at no cost to qualifying families. GSRP runs full days Monday through Thursday, with no more than 16 children in a class and a lead teacher and associate teacher in every room, for a 1:8 ratio. The curriculum covers social-emotional development, math and literacy, fine and gross motor skills, and science and art, with rest time each day. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily. Children must turn 4 by December 1 to enroll for the fall. We also provide Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) for children ages 3 through 5 who qualify under IDEA. ECSE includes special instruction and related services, delivered in the least restrictive setting that fits each child, at no cost to families.

Koepsell Early Childhood Center

Koepsell Early Childhood Center is the preschool building for South Lake Schools, and we provide or host programs for children from birth through age 5. Three programs share our building on Raven Avenue in Eastpointe: the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and Macomb Intermediate School District programming (MISD/MIPP). Our teachers run structured classrooms built around language development, social-emotional skills, cognitive growth and motor skills, so children build the pre-academic and social skills they need for kindergarten. Children who qualify receive special education services through ECSE, and the district Special Services Department offers walk-in speech services for preschool-age children. We share CDC milestone checklists for ages 4 and 5 and Macomb ISD parent resources so families can follow their child's development. South Lake Schools opened its first building in 1898 after starting as a one-room school, and today serves St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe and Grosse Pointe Shores across five buildings, from Koepsell through South Lake High School. Our PTO organizes family events through the year.
