Rising Stars Academy

Listed
Center Line, MIAges 18+Tuition-free

Mark and Deb Prentiss founded Rising Stars Academy in 2012 as a public school for young adults ages 18 to 26 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are authorized by Central Michigan University and managed by the RSA Foundation, and students can enroll at any time during the year. Our curriculum is rooted in the culinary arts and built around work-based learning, so students gain the skills to get a job, keep it and live more independently. Our campus includes a 6-acre urban farm, a fresh food processing facility, a bakery, an aquaponics organic growing system, a fiber arts studio and a recording studio, and we field a robotics team. Many students also train at community job sites, and we partner with local businesses such as Detroit Wing Co. to expand employment opportunities. We follow a school-year calendar from Labor Day through mid-June, and breakfast and lunch are served on campus. Students can apply for ADA transportation through SMART.
