About The Strawbridge School

The Strawbridge School opened in 1997 on the Baltimore campus of Everstand, the organization long known as the Board of Child Care, whose roots include the Strawbridge Home for Boys founded in 1924. As a nonprofit Type I special education program, we hold Maryland State Department of Education approval and teach day and residential students over a 10-month year plus Extended School Year.

Public schools refer students to us after other options are exhausted, often following school trauma, repeated academic struggles or unmet behavioral health needs. Certified special education teachers lead intentionally small classes. Clinical care and individual therapy are written into each student's IEP, and we use trauma-informed care and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

Our building has a science lab, library, art room, a full industrial kitchen and a greenhouse with an outdoor planting area. Vocational classes cover culinary arts, art and ceramics, horticulture and career research. Students run Maxine's Cafe, planning and serving themed meals, and sell their plants, art and culinary items at the twice-yearly Breezeway Market. Families can also get clothing, hygiene items and food through the school.

Windsor Mill, MD Grades 9-12
Public school

Milford Mill Academy gives Windsor Mill high school students several ways to turn an interest into sustained study. Its Baltimore County Public Schools campus pairs core academics with eight magnet pathways for 2026–27. Students can explore automotive service, building and construction, or cosmetology, or pursue dance, design and production, band, visual art, or vocal music. The range makes room for students who want to work with tools and technology as well as those who want to rehearse, perform, or make art. Counselors help students plan courses, recover credits when needed, and look ahead to college and careers. Eligible students can take college-level classes through the Early College Access Program at the Community College of Baltimore County. Outside class, students can join Robotics, Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Dance Company, and other activities, or take part in school athletics. Principal Tryalah Shipman leads the Miller community. The school sits at 3800 Washington Avenue in Windsor Mill.
