Laurel Hall School

Laurel Hall School is the nonpublic special education program of Brook Lane, a mental and behavioral health provider in Hagerstown. Students are referred by their local school system through the IEP process when they need a highly structured setting, and we enroll students from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia who have emotional disabilities, autism or multiple disabilities.

Our Hagerstown school offers a Type I full-day program for elementary, middle and high school, certificate-of-completion classrooms for grades 6 to 12, and a Type III program. The building has 11 classrooms, sensory spaces, art rooms, a library and an outdoor recreation area, with room for 70 students; meals are served in the hospital dining hall. A second Laurel Hall school operates in Frederick.

Classes are small, with certified special education teachers, behavior specialists and 1:1 student/adult support. Depending on the IEP, students receive weekly individual and group therapy, plus speech-language, physical and occupational therapy. Certificate-track students build vocational and life skills through community outings, volunteering and internships, and credits transfer to the home district toward a diploma.
