Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Paducah

Is my Paducah child in Paducah Public Schools or McCracken County Schools?
It depends on your address, not your mailing city. Paducah Public Schools and McCracken County Schools are separate districts with their own special education staff. Call the district office that serves your street before sending a referral, so your request lands with the right team.
Can a Paducah three-year-old attend public preschool for a delay?
Yes, if the child qualifies. Kentucky's state preschool serves all three- and four-year-olds with developmental delays and disabilities, regardless of family income. Ask your district about a preschool evaluation. Four-year-olds can also qualify through family income at or below 160 percent of poverty. Children under three use early intervention instead.
How do I ask for a special education evaluation in Paducah?
Write to your child's principal or the district special education director and ask for a full evaluation. Kentucky law requires each district to find and evaluate children with disabilities ages three to twenty-one. You must give written consent before testing. Our evaluation request guide shows what to include.
Where does a Paducah baby get early intervention?
The Kentucky Early Intervention System serves children from birth to three in every county. Anyone, including a parent or doctor, can make a referral to the regional point of entry office. Most families pay nothing, and some higher-income families pay a sliding Family Share fee. Our early intervention guide covers the process.
