About The Nature School of Central Indiana
The Nature School of Central Indiana is a tuition-free public charter school for kindergarten through grade 8 on the Camp Belzer grounds at 6102 Boy Scout Road. It opened in 2021. Classes use Montessori materials with nature-based learning. It is not a Waldorf school and is not a dedicated special-education campus. Enrollment reached 185 learners in 2024.
K-8 academics follow Indiana standards. Mornings are hands-on small-group work cycles. Afternoons are for projects and practice. Outdoor lunch and recess are part of the day. Weekly Field Study adds outdoor skills, music, and art. Fridays end with a community meeting and early dismissal.
Preschool is a separate paid program for ages 3 to 5 at a 10:1 ratio. Half day is 8:30 a.m. to noon for $7,500 a year or $750 a month. Full day is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for $9,000 a year or $900 a month. The K-8 supply fee is $150 per child. Aftercare runs Monday through Thursday 3:45 to 6:00 p.m. and Friday 1:45 to 6:00 p.m. There is no before-care. A lottery and waitlist cover preschool through grade 8.
