Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Fort Wayne Center for Learning

Are you a school?

No. We are a nonprofit learning center providing one-to-one instruction that works alongside your child's regular schooling, either on an intensive daily schedule or after school.

What happens in the academic assessment?

It runs three and a half to four hours and covers reading, spelling, math, comprehension, and oral language. The fee is $400, and we credit $100 toward instruction if your child enrolls. It includes a pre-instruction and post-instruction assessment, written reports for both, and a private consultation where we walk you through a personalized plan and targeted outcomes.

What schedules do you offer?

Intensive remedial instruction runs two to four sessions a day, four to five days a week. Non-intensive instruction runs one to three sessions a week after school. All of our instruction is one-to-one.

What does instruction cost?

We set fees on a sliding scale. Submit a financial assistance request form with W-2s and tax returns and we will determine the level of assistance we can provide. Weekly payments can be made through the PayPal portal on our website.

What funding can we use?

We are an approved provider for the Indiana Education Scholarship Account program. Our Learning Lifeline Program also lets participating employers, currently Fort Wayne Metals and MetalX, cover part of the assessment and instruction cost as an employee benefit.

What methods do you use?

Our instruction is brain-based and built around symbol imagery and verbal mediation, using Socratic teaching, self-coaching, and diagnostic teaching. Our core programs are based on Lindamood-Bell methodologies. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, licensed, or sponsored by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes.

Crossroad Academy

Fort Wayne, IN
Emotional/behavioral support Alternative to traditional classroom Behavior incentive program

Crossroad Academy is a Cognia-accredited school on the Crossroad Child & Family Services campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for students who are not succeeding in a traditional classroom. Its aim is to prepare each student to be socially and academically ready for the next level of education or vocation. The school serves two groups. Day students live at home and attend as an alternative to public education, and the Day Education program accepts referrals directly from families and from local school corporations. Students in Crossroad's residential treatment programs attend as well. Every student receives a personalized education built from a review of school records, background information, and their IEP where one exists. Certified elementary, secondary, and special education teachers lead each classroom, supported by Crossroad Youth and Family Specialists who assist with behavior management and by Title I assistants who provide extra academic support. A behavior incentive program keeps students focused on behavioral and academic goals, and families receive daily behavior tracking. Instruction follows Indiana State Standards and graduation requirements through project-based and social-emotional learning, with the Edmentum platform used for high school credits. The campus includes a gym, cafeteria, computer lab, media center, playground, and a maker space with a 3D printer, screen printing machine, and podcast studio. Tuition assistance may be available, and qualified students can receive full or partial scholarships.
