About TREAD Educational Services
TREAD Academy grew out of a tutoring practice started by a former public and charter school special education teacher concerned about weak phonics instruction. Today we are a microschool in Stone Mountain for ages 4 to 18, kindergarten through 12th grade, accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission as a traditional private school, with an 8:1 class ratio.
Reading comes first. We teach Orton-Gillingham for struggling readers, use MAP testing three times a year to adjust each plan, and use portfolios and quarterly performance reviews instead of letter grades until high school. Our staff is trained in special education and implements IEPs for students with autism, dyslexia and specific learning disabilities, though students need to function independently. We also run our own ABA therapy clinic.
Each week students head out on a field experience such as Atlanta museums and state parks, and the last Friday of each month is Kings and Queens Day for social and emotional topics. We serve breakfast and lunch, offer before care at $50 a week and after care at $100 a week, run a summer camp, and accept the Georgia Special Needs, Georgia Promise and GOAL scholarships.

East DeKalb Campus
DeKalb County School District’s Exceptional Education office is located at the East DeKalb Campus, 5839 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Our office connects families with information about district special education services and helps them reach the right team. Families and educators can contact us about evaluation, eligibility, and support through a student’s local school program. The district provides special education services to eligible students ages 3–21. Child Find helps identify children from birth through age 21 who may need an evaluation or support, and the district offers screening and evaluation to help determine eligibility. Services are provided at no cost to eligible students, with a continuum of programs intended to address individual educational needs. Families can contact the Exceptional Education team to ask about evaluation, eligibility, and the services available through their local school program. Our districtwide work begins with identifying a student’s needs and coordinating the appropriate educational support. Our Exceptional Education team can explain the evaluation process, eligibility decisions, and where a student’s services will be delivered.
Mini Minds Academy
We help young children build early literacy skills and offer tutoring for school-age learners through age 8. Our lessons can take place one-to-one or in small private groups, at home or online. Families help shape each learner’s plan, so instruction can focus on the skills a child is ready to practice.
Solid Foundation Christian Academy
Solid Foundation Christian Academy in Georgia is a Christ-centered K-12 microschool that combines individualized academic instruction with a dedicated Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program for neurodivergent students. The ABA program serves students from kindergarten through grade 12, offering faith-led, structured, and student-centered behavior support alongside the core academic curriculum. The school accepts the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (SB10) and Georgia Promise Scholarship, maintains a 13:1 student-teacher ratio, and is accredited through the Georgia Accrediting Commission.
