Bradwell Institute traces its roots to the Hinesville Academy, a school operating in Hinesville by 1840, and took its current name in 1871 when the principal renamed it in honor of his father, a former teacher there. Today we are a Liberty County School System high school serving grades 9 to 12, home of the Tigers. Students follow career pathways that include business, agriculture, world language, fine arts and early childhood education, and dual enrollment lets them earn college credit before graduation. We run a JROTC program, use PBIS schoolwide, and assign each graduating class its own school counselor. Our athletes compete in football, flag football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, golf, track, cross country, cheerleading, riflery and esports. Clubs range from FFA, FBLA, DECA, FCCLA and Beta Club to band, chorus, drama, art, skate club, yearbook and a student news team, and our media center hosts a monthly book club where students pick their own titles.

Comparing school options in Hinesville

Hinesville families are served by the Liberty County School System, whose Department for Exceptional Learning handles Child Find. The district's notice asks families of any child from 36 months to 21 years who might have a disability to call the department at 912-876-3018. For babies and toddlers, Georgia's Babies Can't Wait program covers birth to the third birthday.

Liberty County's Child Find notice clears up two points parents often confuse. An educational evaluation is not a diagnosis, and a medical diagnosis such as autism or ADHD does not by itself place a student in special education; the student must meet IDEA criteria for an IEP. Military families in Hinesville should also know that GaDOE posts a separate application form for military students on its Georgia Special Needs Scholarship page.

Frequently Asked Questions About Special Needs Schools in Hinesville

What kinds of concerns does Liberty County's Child Find cover?
The Liberty County notice lists cognitive, motor, and speech delays, learning problems, emotional problems, vision and hearing problems, and medical problems that cause frequent illness or absence. If you see any of these, call the Department for Exceptional Learning at 912-876-3018. Students suspected of having a disability under IDEA are evaluated to decide eligibility. Our evaluation guide explains how to ask.
My child has an autism diagnosis. Does that mean an IEP?
Not automatically. Liberty County states that a medical diagnosis does not place a student into special education and that IDEA sets specific criteria a student must meet for an IEP. Share the diagnosis and reports with the school team as evidence, then ask for an educational evaluation. If your child does not qualify, our 504 Plan vs IEP guide explains the other option.
How do I refer a baby or toddler in Liberty County?
Use Babies Can't Wait, Georgia's early intervention program for children from birth to the third birthday, regardless of income. Complete the state's Child Health Referral form and send it to the Child Health Referral contact for your county, or call that contact. Children with certain diagnosed conditions qualify automatically, and others qualify with a developmental delay confirmed by a qualified team.
Do military families have a separate scholarship application?
GaDOE lists a separate Application Form for Military Students on its Georgia Special Needs Scholarship page. The scholarship generally serves Georgia public school students who had an IEP or qualifying 504 Plan in the prior school year, and it can only be used at participating private schools. GaDOE also posts a medical waiver application for the prior-year attendance rule. Read the official forms before you count on an award.
