We provide an alternative educational setting in Grovetown within Columbia County schools. Our staff focus on a safe, respectful environment and a personalized approach to academic, social and emotional learning. Families receive school updates through ParentSquare, including information about transportation and daily bus assignments. We work with students and families on participation in school and the learning needs that bring them to our program.
Savannah River Academy
Savannah River Academy was started by parents, teachers and administrators who believed the Grovetown area needed another option for education. We are a non-sectarian, fully accredited private school serving preschool through middle school, and since the 2020-2021 school year we have owned our campus on South Old Belair Road. Instruction is built on small, skill-based groups with an 8:1 student-teacher ratio, so teachers differentiate for each student instead of teaching one large group at one level. Core classes meet in the mornings, Monday through Thursday. Afternoons belong to SPARC (Special Programs After Regular Classes), with academic reinforcement plus art, music, PE and Spanish. Fridays bring field trips, STEM challenges and community service, and are required for middle schoolers. Younger students get little to no homework. Our dyslexia program gives students at least two hours of tutoring a week using Orton-Gillingham, the Barton method or both, and certified Orton-Gillingham instructors reinforce early reading in our younger classrooms. Preschool and kindergarten families can choose a part-day program, Monday through Thursday.
