Atlanta Area School for the Deaf is at 890 North Indian Creek Drive in Clarkston. It is a Georgia Department of Education day school that opened in 1972. About 150 students attend across five buildings, coming from more than 30 metro Atlanta districts and agencies. The program serves ages 3 to 21. Instruction uses American Sign Language and English. There is no overnight housing. Local districts provide daily transportation. A student's local school system must refer the child and send current evaluations. The IEP team decides whether AASD is the placement after reviewing present levels and program options. Space in the requested program is required.
