About Island Village Montessori School
On a 12-acre Venice campus, Island Village Montessori School teaches grades K to 8 as a public charter that is free to attend, and a private, tuition-based preschool has its own building on Kilpatrick Road. Enrollment is open to Florida residents without an address zone, and bus stops are spread across Sarasota County.
Our elementary classrooms are multi-age, with Montessori materials on child-sized shelves, team teaching, long work periods and work plans that begin by the end of kindergarten. All of our educators are trained in Montessori methodology and hold Florida teaching certification. Kindergarten through 5th graders attend art, music, dance, drama and PE each week, while middle schoolers can take specials five days a week, from guitar, violin, harp and choir to digital art, photography and clay and glass kilns. A shaded P.E. pavilion hosts basketball, volleyball, tennis and pickleball, and middle school work is project based with limited textbooks.
The preschool day lasts from 7:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a new part-time morning option for 3 year olds. Aftercare keeps PreK through 8th graders until 5:30 p.m., and semester-long enrichment clubs meet after school.
