Sunrise Elementary School serves about 1,100 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade on Marion Oaks Course in Ocala, as part of Marion County Public Schools. Our families come from many backgrounds: roughly 12 percent of our students have disabilities, about 20 percent are learning English, and we run a schoolwide Title I program. Reading gets at least 90 uninterrupted minutes every day, built on myView and the University of Florida's UFLI phonics program, and math gets at least 60 minutes with enVision. i-Ready lessons supplement both subjects. Literacy and math content area specialists coach our teachers each week, and a partnership with Discovery Education brings more hands-on, student-led lessons into classrooms. Every student also takes art, music and physical education. Third through fifth graders can try out for our dance team, which performs at monthly family events and around Ocala, and our auditioned chorus sings at school and community events. We also host a VPK class for four-year-olds and keep guidance and counseling staff on campus.
