Royal Palm School

Royal Palm School in Lantana is the School District of Palm Beach County's most intensive non-residential school, serving students ages 3 to 22 with the most severe disabilities and medical needs. Our entire building was designed around those needs. Many of our students are nonverbal and communicate with low-tech devices, and some require G-tube feeding or trach care and suctioning during the day.

We serve students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, dual diagnoses and orthopedic impairments, along with preschoolers with special needs. Every teacher holds ESE certification. Full-time speech-language pathologists, a physical therapist and an occupational therapist work on site, alongside nurses and medication nurses, a behavior resource teacher, a behavior intervention associate and a transition specialist who helps older students prepare for adult life. Vision services, services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, and orientation and mobility support are also provided, and community language facilitators support Spanish- and Creole-speaking families.

Placement happens through the IEP process: when a student is considered for Royal Palm School, the district's South Region ESE team and a Royal Palm representative join the meeting. Students also have school counselors and a media center.
