Perry Hill School

Shelton, CT Grades K-8
Two-teacher team model Response to intervention STEM units

Perry Hill School occupies a building with deep local roots: it opened as Shelton High School in 1953, served as Shelton Intermediate School from 1974 to 2001, and reopened as Perry Hill School in August 2010. Today we are the upper elementary school for Shelton Public Schools, serving grades 5 and 6. Our teaching model pairs two teachers with about 50 students to create smaller learning communities. One teacher covers reading and writing, the other math and science, and the homeroom teacher teaches social studies. Teachers use differentiated instruction, response to intervention and positive behavioral support, and our academic support center serves students across the school. Students also take art, music, physical education and health, along with STEM units, enrichment and clubs. Our Student Support Service Team includes grade-level school counselors, two school psychologists and a social worker who help with educational planning, study habits, test results and social concerns. We recognize students through the honor roll and our Gold Card initiative, and bus service is available.
