About Whitney Hall School - Hamden

Whitney Hall School is a K-12 approved private special education day school operated by The Children’s Center of Hamden. It serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who have Individualized Education Plans and whose behavioral or emotional challenges impact learning in traditional settings.

The school provides a structured, supportive environment with small classes of fewer than 10 students, a high staff-to-student ratio, and integrated therapeutic support including one hour of counseling weekly with a school social worker plus speech, occupational, and behavioral services as needed. Academics follow a standards-based curriculum with hands-on learning in areas such as culinary, horticulture, and art, plus vocational opportunities.

Placement is coordinated and funded through a student’s referring school district. Districts submit referral packets for review, after which the team determines fit and families may tour the school. A five-week summer program is also offered, including credit recovery for high school students.
