About West 20th Street Campus - GAP/NEXT D6

The Greeley-Evans Alternative Program (GAP) is District 6's credit-recovery high school at our West 20th Street campus in Greeley, built for juniors and seniors who have fallen slightly behind and want to graduate on time. Each student works from an individual graduation plan mapped from their transcript, completing coursework independently at an accelerated pace with teachers on hand for help.

We run three daily shifts, morning, afternoon and evening, so students can hold jobs while they finish school. They can also take college classes at Aims Community College through concurrent enrollment or join our internship and job program. A counselor, a post-secondary advisor and a school social worker help with credits, careers, FAFSA, stress, anxiety and connections to housing, food and medical resources, and a gifted and talented specialist supports advanced learners.

The same building houses NEXT District 6, a GED program run with Zero Dropouts for up to 120 students, with free GED testing, free college coursework and workforce development.

Students learning together at Fred Tjardes School of Innovation

Fred Tjardes School of Innovation

Greeley, CO Grades K-8
Project-based learning Small class sizes Innovation Status school

The Fred Tjardes School of Innovation is a K-8 micro-school in Greeley with 124 students and classes capped at 18. Three local teachers designed the school, and the State Board of Education approved it as an Innovation Status school in March 2017. We opened that fall as part of Greeley-Evans School District 6, with state waivers that give us freedom over curriculum and instruction. Students learn in grade-level bands through themed learning loops, such as Fabric and Flight, that connect reading, math, science, history and engineering. Each loop moves through four steps, Inform, Inspire, Ignite and Innovate, and ends with a research project or real-world solution presented to the community at Museum Night. Students still get direct instruction in basic reading and math, and homework is work they can do on their own. We learn off campus often, with frequent field trips around Greeley, at least three larger trips per grade level each year, and visits to the Poudre Learning Center. Gifted and talented services and special education are provided in partnership with District 6. Enrollment is by lottery through the district's open enrollment window.
