About BASES Learning Center - Oroville
BASES Learning Center (Butte Area Social Emotional Solutions) is a program operated by the Butte County SELPA under the Butte County Office of Education. It opened in the 2019-2020 school year to provide intensive academic, psychological, and behavioral support to students with social-emotional issues or learning challenges.
The program serves students in grades 1-12 as a more restrictive environment than district special day classes. It offers standards-based instruction to meet general education standards and fulfill high school diploma requirements, along with smaller class sizes, a structured leveled behavior program, social skills instruction (including Nurtured Heart Approach), mindfulness curriculum, credit recovery, and work experience opportunities through WorkAbility1. Psychological support includes full-day mental health clinician services, collaboration with school psychologists and outside agencies, and parent involvement.
Placement occurs through district referral and IEP team decisions. Students are placed by their districts of residence, with records reviewed and a 30-day review following placement. The campus is at the former Eastside Elementary School site in Oroville.
