About Walnut Canyon Arts & Technology Magnet School
Arts and technology are built into the academic program at Walnut Canyon Arts & Technology Magnet School, a Moorpark Unified elementary school on Casey Road. Our teachers work from state and national standards and connect daily lessons to creative projects.
Our Cultural Arts Program, known as CAP, extends the school day with enrichment classes for Walnut Canyon students. Families can sign up for one, two or three afternoon classes, with optional AM care from 6:30 a.m., PM care until 6:00 p.m. and an afternoon snack, and sibling discounts are available.
Our school counselor runs a program aligned with American School Counselor Association standards, offering classroom lessons, small groups and individual counseling. Students can use our Wellness Room to practice self-regulation and coping skills, and each month we focus on a character trait such as responsibility, perseverance or kindness. We also help families with meal applications and provide social-emotional learning resources and support for students experiencing homelessness and for children in the child welfare system.

Other Schools in Moorpark, CA
Chaparral Middle School
Chaparral Middle School serves grades 6–8 in Moorpark Unified. Students practice responsibility, decision-making, and communication in a school community that emphasizes mutual respect. The district honors program offers advanced math and language arts in grades 6 and 7, then adds honors science in grade 8 for students placed in those courses. Chaparral also gives students a place to work through assignments beyond class: during the 2026–27 school year, the library offers homework support Monday through Thursday before school and at lunch. The school staff includes special education teachers and a speech-language pathologist. District IEP teams determine specialized instruction and related services for eligible students, so families can discuss a particular child’s plan with the school. Families can contact the Poindexter Avenue office for current schedules, course placement, and support questions.
Mesa Verde Middle School
Twice a year, Mesa Verde Middle School turns its gym into a one-day retreat called ACT, Achieving Character Together, where teachers and student leaders run games and activities meant to build confidence and a sense of community. Students who attend in 6th or 7th grade can apply and interview to become ACT leaders themselves. We serve grades 6 to 8 as part of Moorpark Unified School District. Our honors program offers advanced math and language arts in 6th and 7th grade and adds honors science in 8th, with placement based on 5th grade assessments, report card grades and state test scores. Two credentialed counselors help students with class schedules, academic progress and social-emotional concerns. Students work on Chromebooks, and our library lends books and grade-level textbooks for homework. Outside class, students can propose and form their own clubs through the main office, and our band performs at events such as its coffee concerts. Each trimester, PUMAS Perks cards reward strong grades and citizenship with front-of-line passes, discounted admission to after-school events and end-of-year club activities.
