About Los Gatos Union Elementary Sch
Daves Avenue Elementary opened for the 1953-54 school year with six classrooms, and our Monte Sereno campus grew wing by wing, adding a cafeteria in 1956 and a learning center and library in 1970. We are one of four elementary schools in the Los Gatos Union School District, and our Cat Pirate mascot still carries his Chest of Knowledge.
We are a Project Cornerstone school, built on the Search Institute's 40 developmental assets. Parent volunteers visit classes each month as ABC (Asset Building Champions) readers, and FunVisor volunteers run games and building activities at recess. Our art program, funded by the Los Gatos Education Foundation, follows a sequential K-5 curriculum taught by a district art teacher, with art history lessons, workshops, and an annual art show from the Art Docents of Los Gatos.
Music, STEAM, our library, and Google for Education tools round out the day. Our Home and School Club and staff host family events through the year, including Bingo Night, Math Night, the Halloween Parade, and the spring Science Fair.
