About San Luis Head Start
San Luis Head Start Center on 7th Street in Los Banos is one of the Merced County Office of Education's Head Start sites, offering a School Day Head Start program and a Full Day Early Head Start program. Head Start is free for income-eligible families and for children with exceptional needs.
Head Start serves preschool-age children, while Early Head Start serves infants and toddlers. Every enrolled child gets help arranging a physical exam and dental exam with follow-up care, hearing and vision screening, developmental screening with an individualized education plan, and daily supplemental nutrition. Mental health services are part of the program too.
Children with disabilities take part in every part of Head Start, with special education delivered through partial and full inclusion. Our family services staff work with parents on their own goals, and parent education covers nutrition, first aid, parenting and self-sufficiency skills.
