San Luis Head Start & Early Head Start

Ed Pastor Elementary is a Gadsden Elementary School District school in San Luis, Arizona, home of the Patriots. Our classrooms use an inclusion model for students in special education, and we test for gifted placement three times a year with differentiation in the classroom. Students in grades 4 to 6 can take part in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth program, and K to 3 readers receive MOWR reading interventions. Reading instruction uses Macmillan McGraw-Hill Treasures and math uses Saxon Math, with IXL online practice in both subjects. As an AppleConnectED grant school, every student has an iPad. Our teachers take part in the TAP Teacher and Student Advancement Program, and we offer counseling, migrant education, 21st Century programming and health screenings on campus. Students enjoy music, library, PE and computer specials, intramural sports, a school mariachi and choir, district band, jazz and mariachi, a science club, modern and folkloric dance, the spelling bee, National Elementary Honor Society and student council.

The San Luis campus is at 850 San Luis Plaza Drive. Students ages 14 to 21 can finish high school on an accelerated path, in as little as three years, moving at a pace that fits different learning styles. Classes run Monday through Thursday. Fridays are reserved for extracurricular activities or academic support, so the week is shorter than a traditional five-day high school schedule. Faculty work with a small student-to-teacher ratio and a comprehensive curriculum built around personalized learning. The school serves a wide mix of learners, including students with unique educational needs, and instruction is adjusted for pace rather than held to one timeline for the whole class. An accelerated pathway can compress the diploma into three years when that speed fits the student, and a slower pace remains available for students who need more time. Family partnerships and community involvement are part of how the school works. What a family can plan around is concrete: the 14-to-21 age range, Monday-through-Thursday classes, a Friday block for activities or extra academic help, and a diploma path that can take three years.

San Luis Middle School is part of Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 in San Luis, Arizona, and our principal is a graduate of the school. Our Scorpions follow a standards-based curriculum with Positive Behavior Intervention System expectations. Through the district's Early College Program, seventh and eighth graders can take part in Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth opportunities, ACT preparation, and Advanced ACT Math after-school tutoring. We also provide gifted testing and placement with in-class support and STEAM classes, Write Up a Storm support in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, and a Spelling Bee. Teachers are supported by master and mentor teachers through the Teacher Advancement Program. Students join sports and clubs, and our monthly Ambassadors of Excellence program recognizes academic performance, leadership, and community involvement.
