About ACCEL - Buckeye
ACCEL Buckeye Learning Center is the West Valley K-12 campus of ACCEL, a Phoenix-area nonprofit serving children and adults with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, behavior disorders, and intellectual disabilities. The K-12 Education Program serves students ages 5 to 22 in highly structured, small-class environments with low student-to-teacher ratios. ACCEL is the only Arizona special education school accredited by the National Commission for Accreditation of Special Education Services, and it has been recognized as a School of Excellence by the National Association of Special Education Teachers.
The curriculum map links to Arizona's Academic Standards and draws on resources such as SRA Corrective Reading and Math, Handwriting Without Tears, Unique Learning Systems, and TouchMath. A behavior department of BCBAs, BCaBAs, and RBTs joins IEP teams, conducts functional behavior assessments, and trains classroom staff, and the therapy department delivers IEP services with augmentative communication, assistive technology, and adaptive seating. Daily living and vocational readiness skills are built into classroom routines, and older students practice interviewing, resumes, and on-the-job training with community businesses such as retailers, libraries, gyms, and animal welfare organizations. The campus is on the Arizona Department of Education approved private special education school list.
