New Hope Academy began when our founder wanted a safe, bully-free school for her daughter, who is physically challenged and has learning disabilities. Today our Prattville school on Water Street serves elementary, middle and high school students who learn differently, and most of our students have learning differences. We do not use one curriculum for everyone. Teachers assess each student's academic and social-emotional skills, set individual goals and teach in small classes using the methods that fit that student. Reading instruction draws on Orton-Gillingham principles, with one-on-one Orton-Gillingham tutoring for students with severe dyslexia. A speech-language pathologist from Autauga County Schools sees eligible students on campus each week at no cost, and we work closely with a local ABA provider for students who receive ABA therapy. High school students earn at least 24 Carnegie credits on college-preparatory or career tracks, with dual enrollment through Central Alabama Community College and electives such as sign language, gardening, theater, yearbook and ACT prep. Our self-contained D.R.E.A.M. class teaches life, job and independent living skills. An after-school program runs Monday through Thursday until 5:30 p.m.
