Best Special Needs Schools in Homewood, Alabama (2026)

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School opened in 1949 as an addition to Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood and now serves as a regional school for the parishes of Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Peter the Apostle, St. George and St. Elias in the Diocese of Birmingham. We teach Wee-K3 through 8th grade, with two classes at each grade level from kindergarten up. Our curriculum meets diocesan and Alabama standards and adds art, music, Spanish and technology, along with student liturgy, adoration and a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium. Our staff includes a librarian, a director of student services and resource teachers, and we are accredited by Cognia. Wee-K3 meets two days a week, and Wee-K4 families choose a three-day or five-day class. Students play basketball, volleyball and soccer through diocesan and city leagues, and 7th and 8th graders can join John Carroll Catholic's middle school teams. Early morning care starts at 7:00 a.m. and after school care runs until 6:00 p.m. Families can use the CHOOSE Act, C2 Opportunity Scholarships, Scholarships for Kids and our own tuition assistance.
