The DAY Program is a nonprofit alternative school in Alabaster for at-risk middle and high school students from every school in Shelby County. Students come to us to catch up academically, work through what is getting in their way, and then return to their home school. We work in partnership with the Shelby County Department of Youth Services, United Way and local schools. Our classes are led by teachers in English, history, science and math, along with a resource teacher. We focus on academic remediation, and students who are ready to finish another way can work with our GED instructor and testing coordinator. Two counselors provide individual, group and family counseling, and students also practice goal setting, problem solving, life skills and employability skills. We are on the second floor of the YMCA building in Alabaster, across from the Highway 119 post office. Every student can get a free breakfast each morning, and we take part in the summer food program. Families start enrollment with a referral form and an intake packet.
