Since 2008 STEPS Behavioral Health has combined applied behavior analysis with family advocacy in Maryland, Georgia, and Colorado. The Columbia clinic supports Howard County toddlers and preschoolers who need intensive preparation before kindergarten. Early STEPS offers full- or part-day ABA for about eighteen months through five years, mixing one-to-one teaching with guided social opportunities. Social STEPS adds peer practice; evening blocks help working parents protect weekly dosage. When indicated, onsite physical, occupational, and speech therapies reduce separate appointments. BCBAs can join school meetings when districts allow outside support so home, clinic, and classroom stay aligned.

Columbia families can choose center-based care, in-home care, or a mix, including a fast path to a clinical consultation for early intervention admissions. Board Certified Behavior Analysts lead language, adaptive, and functional behavior assessments, then translate results into written plans that reflect caregiver priorities. Skill work focuses on communication, social engagement, toileting, feeding, and vocational skills when clinically appropriate. Behavior-reduction plans stress antecedent changes and replacement skills instead of punishment. Family training is built in so strategies carry into homework, errands, and school transitions. Insurance-funded ABA usually needs a physician referral and autism diagnosis; admissions helps with benefit questions. BHCOE recognition reflects the network's focus on ethical supervision and outcome tracking.
