Overview
Rowland Hall's Upper School occupies 843 South Lincoln Street in Salt Lake City, sharing the site with Rowmark Ski Academy, and teaches grades 9 through 12. Learning support in this division rests with learning specialist Shannon Foy, whose emphasis falls on self-advocacy and independence ahead of college. She advises both students and teachers, administers formal accommodations, and coaches students on executive functioning, study skills, and time management, working alongside families, advisors, administrators, and outside professionals so a student's plan shifts as the student does.
In place of IEPs and 504 plans, the school builds support plans from outside evaluation reports. The teacher, learning specialist, family, and evaluator debrief together, after which the specialist drafts a document listing strengths, needs, classroom strategies, and accommodations for all of the student's teachers. Any Upper School student can draw on the learning support team, with or without a diagnosis.
Tuition for 2026-2027 is $38,750 across grades 9 through 11 and $39,750 in grade 12, plus a one-time $2,000 matriculation fee for new families. Roughly 25 percent of students are supported by need-based assistance or scholarships, and everyone who qualifies for assistance is considered automatically for need-based awards, with merit scholarships open separately. Upper School students relocate to the Richard R. Steiner Campus when it opens on December 2, 2026, joining grades 6 through 8 next to the McCarthey Campus. Admission starts with an inquiry or visit, and the financial aid application closes January 31.

Challenger School has operated private campuses since 1963 and runs 27 locations across the West, including six in the Salt Lake City area. The Salt Lake campus sits at 1325 South Main Street with easy freeway access, safety gates, a security guard, and hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The campus offers preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school. Preschool programs mix music, reading, math, art, drama, social time, science, and physical activity. The kindergarten program balances play and structured learning, and elementary students are taught to think critically within a values-based curriculum. Admission requires a campus visit, an in-person interview and evaluation, and a placement test for kindergarten through eighth grade applicants. Children must be at least 2 years 9 months for preschool in Utah and toilet trained. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and class placement is based on scholastic expectations, student motivation, and comportment.
