Blackstone Academy Charter School

Students earn a seat at the Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts by audition. We are a public arts high school in the Pawtucket School Department, and every student chooses a major in dance, music, theatre, video and film, or visual art. Auditions mirror the work students do here. Visual art applicants draw a still life on site and bring a portfolio of original work, dance applicants learn a dance phrase and take a group class, and musicians perform and complete a music theory assessment and pitch matching. Theatre applicants prepare two memorized monologues, and video and film applicants submit a short narrative video.

The Professional Adult Development Institute (PADI) is dedicated to empowering adult learners through comprehensive professional development training and educational support. Established in 2014, PADI serves a diverse population, including individuals transitioning to college, low-income earners, English language learners, adults with learning and developmental disabilities, unemployed adults, immigrants, and veterans. The institute focuses on enhancing essential skills in areas such as college writing, basic English, science, and math while fostering personal growth and career advancement. PADI's approach combines tailored tutoring with ongoing training programs designed to meet the unique needs of each participant. What sets PADI apart is its commitment to inclusivity and individualized support, ensuring that every learner can recognize their potential and achieve their goals in a nurturing environment. With a strong emphasis on mentorship and community engagement, PADI not only equips students with vital skills but also cultivates a sense of belonging and purpose among its diverse clientele.

Rhode Island Alternative Academy serves students from across Rhode Island who have struggled in traditional school settings. The school pairs standards-based academics with hands-on learning and works with families and sending districts to help students meet graduation requirements. Staff build relationships with students and provide therapeutic support when a student needs it. A behavior-modification approach supports learning throughout the day, while individualized planning helps students move toward their academic and personal goals. The program offers an alternative setting for students who need a different path to continue their education.
