Trinity School
School profile
Overview
Trinity School is a Catholic independent school at 4985 Ilchester Road in Ellicott City, Maryland, founded in 1941 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. It enrolls about 285 students from Preschool 3 through Grade 8 on a 48-acre campus that includes a chapel, five buildings, two fields, outdoor basketball courts, and a full-size gym. The school is accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education. It was named a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School in 1989 and 1999.
Support for language-based learning differences runs through the Julie Program, named for St. Julie Billiart, foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The program serves students with mild to moderate, clinically diagnosed learning differences and is split by age: the Julie Program covers Kindergarten through Grade 4 and intervenes as early as Kindergarten to build foundational skills, while the Trinity Academic Support Program (TASP) provides learning support in Grades 5 through 8. For the 2026-2027 year, the Julie Program fee is $6,350 and the TASP fee is $3,500, charged in addition to tuition. These programs make Trinity a fit for twice-exceptional learners who need both a standard academic track and targeted intervention.
Classes are small, averaging 15 students in Preschool and 17 to 22 in Grades K-8, with an overall student-teacher ratio of 14:1. Every faculty member from Preschool through Grade 8 holds a bachelor's degree and 56% hold a master's degree. The Preschool, which opened in 2009, runs half-day and full-day options and includes team teaching for science, religion, and math, plus Spanish and French. World language continues through the grades (Spanish in the early years, French added in Grades 3 and 4, and a choice of French or Spanish in middle school).
Beyond academics, students have access to band, choir, hand bells, drama, and interscholastic athletics including basketball, cross country, and track. About 30% of K-8 students receive tuition assistance, and an extended-day program (Club TED) covers before- and after-school care. For inquiries, families can contact the admissions office at 443-498-5040.
