Developmental Learning Center - New Providence

The Developmental Learning Center - New Providence is a public special education school for children with autism or autistic-like behavior, ages 3 to about 12. We are run by the Morris-Union Jointure Commission, a regional collaborative public school district that serves its member districts in Morris and Union counties.

Our instruction is built on applied behavior analysis. Teachers break a skill into small steps, teach those steps in a structured sequence, and use positive reinforcement to build on each success. Every student follows an individualized education program written together by the family, the local child study team and our staff, so children are placed with us through their home district.

Students eat breakfast and lunch on site, and the MUJC operates its own bus fleet, including wheelchair-accessible buses, for member districts. Parents can join regular parent and administration chats and MUJC parent training sessions. When students outgrow our program, the DLC - Warren campus continues the same approach for ages 13 to 21.
