Community Day Nursery

Althea Gibson Early Childhood Academy welcomes East Orange children at its 490 William Street campus. Part of the city's public school district, Gibson serves preschool and kindergarten learners as they begin school. Its staff includes preschool educators and teaching assistants, a vocal music teacher, and a school counselor. School events bring children and families into the life of the academy throughout the year. The campus gives young students their first public-school classrooms before they move into the district's later grades.

Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts is dedicated to nurturing the whole student within a safe and enriching learning environment. Serving a diverse population, the school focuses on providing tailored educational experiences for students with various needs, including those with language-based learning disabilities and twice-exceptional learners. The school employs innovative teaching methods and therapeutic approaches to foster both academic achievement and emotional well-being, ensuring that each child's unique strengths are recognized and developed. With a commitment to maintaining low student-teacher ratios, Cicely L. Tyson Community School stands out through its strong partnerships with families, specialized programs in the arts, and an array of extracurricular activities that promote community engagement and personal growth. East Orange Campus High School is home to the Jaguars, serving high school students in the East Orange School District. Our students take Advanced Placement courses such as AP Chemistry, study graphic design through career and technical education, and sing in vocal music classes. Special education teachers focused on learning disabilities work in our classrooms alongside teacher assistants, including one-to-one aides for students who need them, and a Child Study Team social worker is part of our staff. A bilingual teacher assistant supports English learners, and district family newsletters go out in Haitian Creole and Spanish as well as English. Seniors get hands-on help with college applications and the FAFSA, and the district's Jaguar University offers an intensive dual enrollment summer program for high school students. Jaguar athletics run through the fall, winter and spring seasons, including football and track.
