Reconnections Education Center
School profile
Overview
REConnections Education Center is a private, nonprofit K-12 school located in the Tampa Bay area, dedicated to supporting special needs and neurodivergent students who thrive in a nurturing educational environment. The school serves a diverse range of children, focusing on their unique learning profiles instead of specific diagnoses. This inclusive approach allows students with various needs, to receive tailored support that fosters both academic and personal growth. At REConnections, therapy is seamlessly integrated into the daily curriculum, ensuring that every student benefits from individualized speech and occupational therapy designed to enhance communication and self-regulation skills. Utilizing the DIRFloortime model, the school emphasizes relationship-based learning without relying on traditional behavioral management techniques like ABA or reward charts. This creates an atmosphere where students feel safe to express themselves and engage fully in their education. What sets REConnections apart is its commitment to maintaining low student-teacher ratios of 1:3 or 1:4, allowing for highly personalized instruction and support. The collaborative environment between teachers and therapists ensures that every aspect of a child's day is conducive to learning and growth. Families often find solace in this unique educational setting after experiencing challenges in more conventional schools, as REConnections prioritizes understanding each child's strengths while addressing their specific needs. Through a combination of specialized facilities, strong family partnerships, and community engagement events, REConnections Education Center stands as a beacon of hope for families seeking an empathetic and effective educational solution for their children.
At REC, each student will be provided with 1:1 or small group instruction to not exceed 1:3 teacher:student ratio or 1:4 (dependent on the students level of learning) for a minimum of two / maximum of three core subjects a day. This grade level curriculum is based on Florida state standards and may include; Math, Science, Arts/Humanities, Social Studies, and Language arts. REC bases student support on comprehensive assessments and observations of classroom performance in order to be able to better modify what each student needs. Social emotional lessons, handwriting, art and physical education will be integrated into the program on a daily basis alongside Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and DIRFloortime.
