My thoughts on San Carlos park
4/5
As a parent of a child with special needs at San Carlos Park Elementary, I want to share my experience with the school's approach to exceptional student education (ESE). Strengths: The school and district offer a variety of programs for students with special needs, including those with autism, developmental delays, and other disabilities. Each student receives services based on an Individualized Education Program (IEP), which is reviewed and updated every year with input from both staff and parents. The ESE team at the school may include specialists such as ESE teachers, school psychologists, and social workers, depending on your child's individual needs. I've found team meetings to be welcoming of parent input, and my concerns are always listened to during the process. The campus is physically accessible, with wheelchair-friendly entrances and parking, making it easier for children with mobility needs to navigate the school. Considerations: Like many public schools, class sizes may vary. While the school aims to provide individualized attention, resources can be limited by staffing and scheduling. For children with very specialized or intensive needs, the district might assign them to another school with more specialized "low-incidence" programs if determined by the IEP team. At San Carlos Park Elementary, most ESE services are provided in the regular school environment with support and accommodations.
