Cedar Trails Exploration Center houses two very different programs for De Soto USD 232 families: the district's early childhood preschool and CTEC CAPS, our career and technical education center for high school students. Our preschool serves children ages 3 to 5 who live in USD 232 or whose parents work for the district. All classes are half-day, with morning and afternoon sessions, and classrooms hold 10 to 20 children with 2 to 4 staff members. Families enroll through fee-based, grant-funded (free) or special education placements, and bus transportation is available for grant-funded seats. We also provide special education evaluations and services for children not yet kindergarten eligible, with IEP teams making individual decisions. Our support staff includes special education teachers, speech pathologists, school psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, audiologists, teachers of the visually impaired and deaf or hard of hearing, and orientation and mobility specialists. CTEC CAPS is part of the national CAPS network and offers bioscience, design, and emerging technologies strands built around projects with business partners.

Guidepost Montessori is a dedicated educational institution that embraces the unique needs of children from infancy through age 12, including those with diverse learning profiles such as language-based learning disabilities and twice-exceptional students. The school's mission centers on fostering a nurturing environment where each child can thrive in their current moment, emphasizing that education is not merely preparation for the future but a vital part of their present. Utilizing the time-tested Montessori methodology, Guidepost offers personalized learning experiences with a focus on child-paced development, hands-on materials, and one-on-one lessons tailored to individual needs. Key programs include immersive language options and a strong emphasis on independence, literacy, and numeracy skills. Shooting Stars Montessori is an early childhood center in Lenexa with one classroom for each age group: infants from 2 weeks, movers from 1 to 2, toddlers from 2 to 3, and a mixed-age preschool room for children 3 to school age. Each room is led by a teacher certified through the North American Montessori Center along with an assistant teacher. Our authentic Montessori program covers practical life, sensorial work, math, language and cultural studies, which takes in geography, history, nature and science. Children choose their work from hands-on materials and progress at their own pace. We add monthly science experiments, math-based projects, art and nature activities, and visits from firefighters, farmers, artists and musicians. We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Class sizes are small, and low staff turnover gives children consistent caregivers. Our building has secured entry points, and we run regular fire, tornado and lockdown drills.
