Nathan Hale Elementary School

Heritage Middle School serves students in grades 5 to 8 for Sunnybrook School District 171 in Lansing, a two-school district where younger children attend Nathan Hale Elementary through fourth grade. Our building dates to the 1970s and also houses the district office, and a new track is being built on our grounds. Students in grades 6 to 8 receive traditional letter grades as they prepare for high school. Families across our district speak nine languages at home, including Arabic, French, Haitian Creole, Igbo, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese and Yoruba, and our English Language Learner program supports students while a Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee gives their families a voice. District health services cover hearing and vision screening, and students have access to school counseling and a multi-tiered system of supports.

Black Bear Academy is an esteemed therapeutic day school and clinical pediatric practice located in Chicago's Lakeview/North Center neighborhood. Founded in 2003, Black Bear Academy provides intensive therapeutic education and early intervention for children ages 18 months through 10 years with speech-language delays, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, and sensory motor challenges. With low 3:1 classroom ratios, the academy bridges the gap between clinical therapy and academic schooling by integrating speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and academic instruction into a cohesive daily schedule.
