Open Wings

Open Wings Learning Community is a nonprofit private school in Kenosha for children whose needs are not met in traditional settings because of large classes and fixed pacing. We welcome neurodiverse students with language delays, dyslexia, ADHD, pervasive developmental disorders, sensory issues, and autism, along with their siblings and friends, so typically developing students learn side by side with complex learners.

Classrooms average six students with a teacher and an associate, and academics are taught in groups of two to five. Our Lower School (grades K to 5) and Upper School learn in multi-age groups matched by academic level, using the Reading and Writing Project, Math Expressions, Illustrative Math, Mystery Science, and 7 Mindsets for social-emotional learning. Students rotate through yoga, dance and movement, music, art, and drama, with kinetic wellness every day.

Field experiences and community visitors are part of every unit of study. Grants and community fundraising cover close to half of each student's annual tuition, and scholarships are available. We also run Open Wings North in Glendale and a live online class.
