About Salish Sea Deaf School
Salish Sea Deaf School is a unique independent school established in 2015, specifically designed for children who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The school utilizes an ASL/English bilingual approach to provide academic excellence, aiming to enhance language competency, student curiosity, and a positive self-identity. We strive to inspire students to reach their fullest potential and 'Achieve More' by embracing each individual's unique strengths and contributions within a high-expectation environment.
The curriculum at Salish Sea Deaf School is progressive, flexible, and inquiry-based, combining traditional approaches with innovative methods while meeting Common Core requirements. We emphasize small class sizes to ensure the individualized attention every child deserves, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Our instructional model includes hands-on project-based learning and a dedicated ASL and Deaf Culture curriculum, creating an enriching environment where students can communicate with everyone in their surroundings.
We offer a nurturing learning environment with educational specialists who hold Master’s degrees in Deaf Education and an on-site Speech-Language Pathologist with extensive experience. Beyond academics, Salish Sea promotes communication, cooperation, and collaboration within both the Deaf and hearing communities. The school also provide training and resources for parents regarding education, Deaf culture, and communication, fostering a strong partnership between families and the school to empower students for future success.
