Pearson's Corner Elementary School

Laurel Meadow Elementary School (LMES) is a public pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school in Mechanicsville, Virginia, operated by Hanover County Public Schools. Established in 2008, it is a community school with a population of approximately 550 students, known as the Laurel Meadow Lions. The day opens with a 10 minute morning meeting. Students gather in a circle for greetings, sharing, group activities, and morning messages, as part of a whole child approach. Math Workshop runs in kindergarten through fifth grade, using small group instruction and differentiated tasks focused on problem solving. A house system adopted in 2022 to 2023 places students into one of five houses representing the school's Positive, Responsible, Innovative, Determined, and Empathetic expectations. As a Virginia public school, Laurel Meadow provides special education services in a collaborative or resource setting as specified in each student's Individualized Education Program, along with school-based speech and language services. Other services include counseling, gifted education, reading intervention, math intervention, and preschool. Families can use the Hanover County Parent Resource Center for support on the special education process.
