Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy Elementary School
Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy Elementary School is a public charter school in Cranston serving kindergarten through 4th grade. We belong to Achievement First, a network that grew from Amistad Academy, which opened in New Haven in 1999 with 84 fifth and sixth graders, and now serves about 15,000 students in 41 schools across Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island. Our Rhode Island schools serve students from Providence, North Providence, Warwick and Cranston, and every student is admitted through a blind lottery. We provide transportation, and the school is also near the #28 bus line. Alongside core academics and literacy, students take dance, drama and physical education. We meet students where they are while holding high expectations. A Special Education Local Advisory Committee of parents, teachers, administrators and related service providers such as social workers, psychologists and speech-language pathologists works to strengthen services for students with IEPs.
Action Based Enterprises
Action Based Enterprises School in Woonsocket is a RIDE-accredited special education school for students ages 6 to 21 who need support with complex behavioral and social needs. Action Based Enterprises has served Rhode Island families since 2002, and our 141 Main Street building is also home to the Hillside Alternative Program. Students come to us through their local school department. The district starts the referral, then our staff, the family, and district representatives review the student's IEP together and decide whether the placement is the right fit. Once enrolled, each student follows individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals and Rhode Island learning standards, with behavioral support built into every part of the school day. Our teachers use hands-on demonstration learning across the core academic subjects, and students work on self-regulation, communication, technology skills, and early exposure to career and vocational pathways. Action Based Enterprises is a nonprofit, and we also run adult community and employment programs for people with developmental disabilities.
