McGuffey Montessori School

McGuffey Montessori School grew out of the Miami University Lab School. When the lab school closed in 1983, a group of teachers and parents founded the McGuffey Foundation School, and today we are a private Montessori school in Oxford serving preschool through eighth grade.

Students learn in four multi-age groups: Primary for ages 3 to 6, Lower Elementary for grades 1 to 3, Upper Elementary for grades 4 to 6 and Middle School for grades 7 and 8. Children learn to read when they are developmentally ready, and hands-on materials carry math and grammar from the concrete to the abstract. Middle schoolers can take Algebra, Honors Algebra or Honors Geometry and study genetics, physics and world history. Our Partners Program pairs older and younger students.

Art, music, PE and foreign language are part of every week. Upper Unit students spend four days at Glen Helen Outdoor School, seventh and eighth graders plan a trip to Washington, D.C., and middle schoolers take the leading roles in our annual musical. Before care starts at 7:30 a.m., after care runs until 5:30 p.m., and summer camps serve ages 3 through rising third grade.
